Starbound Theatre is now accepting applications for our Student Director and Tech Program!

 

Students must apply online by the Application Deadline, August 1, 2025. Approved Applicants will be contacted for an in-person interview, applicants should have their parents available for the interview.  Student Directors should prepare a theatrical resume to provide the interview panel.  Following interviews, Starbound Theatre will announce our selections on August 25, 2025.

Students Ages 14+ are welcome to apply for our Student Director Program for the 2025-2026 Season. This season includes: 3 Starbound Mainstage Productions, 1 Starbound Junior Stage Production, 2 Starbound Performing Arts Academy Showcases, 1 Solano Community Players Mainstage Production, and 1 Solano Community Players Second Stage Production

STUDENT DIRECTOR PROGRAM

What is the Student Director Program?

Starbound Theatre is dedicated to the theatre education of our students.  Our Student Directors will work with Starbound Staff in the following areas: backstage tech, costumes, make-up, stage management, assistant direction, props, sound/media, music and choreography.  Starbound Staff will mentor students as they gain the necessary skills to assist staff with various elements of our productions. Students will learn the various skills of production management.  Each production student directors will be responsible for an assigned component of that production

What are the requirements of Student Directors and Techs?

Students commit to eleven months (September 2, 2025 to August 2, 2026) of working as a Student Director. Students must participate in at least one production during the 2025-2026 season.

Students should be prepared to attend rehearsals 1-2 times a week depending on the production and responsibility assigned, as well as weekly Student Director meetings. Student Directors will be expected to attend every tech rehearsal and performance for the shows they are assigned. Students will also be expected to attend most Starbound Staff production meetings. 

Student Directors will also be given an opportunity to direct or stage manage a small production during the year.  There will be a variety of field trips and workshops specifically for Student Directors.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING PROGRAM

The Student Director Program is an unpaid training program.  Students will not be paid for attending student director meetings, working on Main Stage productions, and other projects. Students entering into their first year in the program are not eligible for additional paid opportunities.

Upon entering their second year in the program, students aged 15 ½ years and older will need to provide a work permit to be eligible for additional paid opportunities.
